Total Church (part II)

Some noteworthy developments with the upcoming U.S. release of the book Total Church (via Crossway publishers this Sept., published last June in Britain via IVP).:

  • Tim Keller and Acts 29 are doing a London DWELL conference next month, bringing in Steve Timmis  (co-author of Total Church and a part of The Crowded House church planting movement in England) as a keynote speaker;
  • There’s an illuminating and engaging three way e-mail diaolgue (17 pages!) regarding Total Church in Matthias Media’s periodical The Briefing (May and June issues) between Matthias Media’s Tony Payne, Simon Flanders and Steve Timmis (co-author of Total Church);
  • Keller is bringing in Timmis and Tim Chester (Timmis’s co-author of Total Church) next year to train the Redeemer Church Planting movement about their church methodology proposed in Total Church (as practiced in The Crowded House churches);
  • This August, Kaleo Church in San Diego is hosting the Total Church Conference USA, with Timmis and Chester as the main speakers (with folks from Kaleo and Soma communities assisting in the breakout sessions);
  • The Acts 29 board is also looking to Timmis and Chester while they reevaluate how their respective churches “do” church.

Suffice it to say, Total Church is causing (and will continue to cause with the U.S. release) a major tremor in Reformed circles and beyond, with some respected ministries and individuals on both sides of the Atlantic intently listening and even extending their hands in cooperation with Timmis and Chester as they prayerfully ponder how to implement the theology and methodology within the book.
